Alright A bit of OOC history first. This Dream for all intents and purposes is basically Space Station Gamma: the Next Generation. The events that happened there have directly placed before this storyline. About 7 years has passed in game time since the events of that dream and where we will begin. It's also in a different quadrant of the galaxy. While the people and places of Gamma still exist we won't be interacting with them.
Now then as far as the events that lead up to where we are here "today" the Date is 42.263 AC. Basically that means Cycle 42 (year) . 263(day) Each Cycle is 365 days Just for continuity sake to keep it consistent with ours.
The Alliance is a grouping of Governments much like the "Federation" is in the Star Trek universe. Each independent world has representatives in an Alliance Senate and there is one president. The Alliance is 42 years old and now that the base infrastructure has been set up and the Alliance as a whole is stable Things have turned from building to now Exploration. In all this the Alliance however is still a fledgling government in the grand scheme of things. There are several powers that want to see it fail
The Borg exist here. They are not so much concerned with the Alliance as they are with expanding their own territory and finding a way past the anti Assimilation virus that has been created.
The Protectorate are warlords and family lines that have been made up of previous Cymar Empire castes. They are basically scavengers on the outer fringe of the galaxy but recently they have become loosely allied and much more dangerous.
The Laurne confederacy is made up of only Laurne and conquered wars. They've been quite lately because of the costly war with the Atlantian Federation. But they are emotionless people that literally use technology to keep their populace "under control"
Friendly to the Alliance. for the most part is the Atlantian Federation that was the basis for the Gamma dream. However they are on the brink of civil war
Now then The Alliance does not harbor really any anger against various races but certain distrusts are still lingering. Going back over a hundred and fifty years ago. The Cymar Empire was in control of this quadrant of the galaxy. The Cymarian people were a conquering race but not a cruel one. They viewed it as their duty to actually conquer the week as they were not strong enough to rule themselves. Mainly because of the harsh evolution on their own homeworld. "
You say, "They misinterpreted the teaching of their forerunner Cymar herself over their own evolution from a stone age people to a space faring race. That perversion of her teachings is what drove their empire that lasted for over a millennia. (I should note I will be going over more with the Cymarian players as the Cymar race is really my baby)"
The Empire was in decline but the incident with the Trancendence was what pushed it over the edge. Over a century ago, the flagship of the Cymarian fleet, the "Transcendence" exploded in orbit of Cymar. Eighty five percent of all biological life was eradicated in the firestorm and ecological disaster that followed. The disaster killed many of the ruling factions on Cymar, and the majority of the senate. Those who survived struggled for life as the empire collapsed under the weight of this disaster. Nearly a decade passed as the Empire went from stable to nonexistent.
The region of space that was the empire splintered into individual powers once again. Many of the worlds that were subjugated by the Cymarians left the dying race to their fate. Two races however, The Korath and Arthen saw a chance at creating a better future. With the full resources of what Cymarian powers that were left and the combined technologies of these two races, they devoted their existence to restoring the scorched once jungle world.
Six decades later Cymar was well on it's way to recovery. Vegetation covered about sixty percent of what was once burned, and there was a huge swell in the population growth of the Cymarian race. In an attempt in creating something honorable the Korath proposed a alliance between the Cymar, Arthen, and Korath races. One were all were equal, where freedom honor, and life were all valued. The Alliance was born. In the next decade several more races joined. Some out of curiosity, and others out of a true sense of understanding at what was being forged. Fourty years into their existence the Alliance now spanned fully three quarters of what the empire once controlled.
A bit on the Races of the Alliance. The Arthen are Canine and basically the cool collected strategists of the lot. Korath are Feline and just as felines are curious they are the Artists and Scientists. Keraja are rodents and are sorta what you get if you combine MacGuyver and Scotty in one body. Kyris are the musties. They are the most reserved and quiet of the races but they are the best at ploting and schemeing. Not evil mind you but not exactly friendly either. Yoshiru are rabbits. More like the Usagi Yojimbo style. Strictly Zen in their code of ethics and reserved but fierce hand to hand warriors.. Shaie'thee are similar to Elven folk. They are the Jack of all trades and quite roguish. Cymarian's of course are the Reptile race that has it's own strict code of honor."
